Eric Corey Freed is principal of Organic ARCHITECT, a design and research firm in San Francisco with 15 years of experience in green building.
Eric teaches the Sustainable Design program he developed at the Academy of Art University and University of California Berkeley. He is on the board of Directors for Architects, Designers & Planners for Social Responsibility (ADPSR), Green Home Guide and West Coast Green, as well as the advisory boards of nearly a dozen other organizations. He is one of the founders of ecoTECTURE: The Online Journal of Ecological Design and his monthly column at GreenerBuildings.com is linked to over a dozen other publications. Eric has lectured around the country, and his work has been featured in Dwell, Natural Home and Newsweek. He also co-founded and was one of the editors for ecoTECTURE: The Online Journal of Ecological Design, a publication for people interested in the environment.
He provides the audience with organic and ecological alternatives to environmentally damaging procedures. He worked under acclaimed architect Beverly Willis, and helped design two schools in New York. Their design for Manhattan Village Academy was widely published. At that time, noted architect and critic, Philip Johnson cited Eric as "one of the real brains of his generation."
In 1996, Eric’s skills took him to Santa Fe, New Mexico to work alongside American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, where he was able to use both ancient and recent environmental building materials. Eric then moved on to San Francisco where he furthered his knowledge and experience by forming his own practice.
Eric's work has been exhibited in numerous venues. He has been a visiting critic at several schools of architecture and the recipient of various awards and accolades.
